I confess I am one of those people who occasionally complain
about the lack of things to do in Hamilton on weeknights. That’s why I had to
be there on a Tuesday night at House Bar where the Kiwi Bandwagon event took
place.
All I knew was that there was going to be a fire truck and a
group of guys called the Adventure Artists who are travelling around the
country to bring the best local artists or NZ music month. I was definitely not
prepared to rage. It was, after all, just a Tuesday night.
The first act was the up-and-coming band called The Latest Fallout.
Although it was only their first ever gig, they already had a few fans among
the crowd. Their set was a great opening to the show and it set the mood for
the night. Not bad for a first gig.
Next up was a band that played another energetic set. If
there was one thing that stood out about the Chatchy, it’s that their songs are
pretty catchy. The seven-piece band even had a trombone and saxophone player (I
overheard some girls behind me yell “sexy sax” a few times) that gave the band
a distinct sound.
The last to perform for the night was Knights of the Dub
Table. They had the crowd enthralled the moment they stepped on stage, and
their whole set just flowed with ease. Clearly experts in getting the audience
to participate, I found myself getting up to dance in one of their songs.
Aside from the bands that performed, the best dj’s Hamilton
has to offer was also in attendance. I especially liked the way the whole
program was patterned with bands performing followed by dj’s.
It was a great night spent with fellow music lovers. NZ
music month is something that is really to be celebrated (The Black Seeds on
May 30th at Altitude and Flow Bar’s Birthday on June 2 is something to look
forward too as well) judging from the talents we have. If only the Kiwi
Bandwagon would come back around again. I am keen for another Tuesday night
adventure.

Things are a bit quiet on the blog lately but that is about to change! Have a great week everyone x
