Fun Fridays

This week just keeps getting better and better. As from our previous post, it's Steph's 21st so this week has been full of epic times. We got badly burnt from our Waihi trip last Wednesday, but we managed to make it out on Thursday night. We figured it's nothing a few swigs of alcohol won't fix, right? Friday was spent hungover, tired, and a little bit sick. Despite the sunburn and hangover, we made it out for The Good Fun w/ The Beggars Way over at Static last night. 

We were probably a bit too early for the gig so we wandered around town, shared a kebab (yuuuum), and raged it out in The Hood to pass time.  True story. 

So anyway.. how awesome was The Good Fun? I've seen them once very briefly because we got there they were playing their last song, so I was excited to finally catch them in full swing. It was the band's first gig in 2012 after a very successful 2011 (a fact that was reiterated by lead vocalist Leroy Clampitt a few times during the night), and boy did these guys start the year with a bang!

I loved everything about the gig: the crowd, the commentary from the band, and of course the music. Steph and I were pretty tempted to touch them while performing, to be honest, but then we remembered we were on official business and so we must be professional. Ha. 

Their songs were catchy, danceable, and overall just gives off a "good fun" vibe. I heard these guys make sounds like no band has ever had (Krasnjeckov) and in fact, loved it so much I got myself a copy of their EP Sharing via iTunes this morning. 

Last night wasn't just filled with good fun, but with the best fun.

The Good Fun is composed of Leroy Clampitt (lead vocals/guitar), Jimi Mataio (drums/backing vocals), Fraser Macdonald (bass guitar), and Kam Chadderton (guitar/backing vocals). You can get their EP from iTunes and connect with the band through their Facebook page.

On Wednesday we took the day off and headed down to the Hamilton Gardens to work on a photography assignment. As you can see we have some pretty 'mad skillz' as we like to call it when it comes to taking photos. I'm especially referring to the image where it looks like Jess is photo-shopped into it - honestly don't know how that happened but it cracks me up. We've been starting to build up quite a few of these images so will put together a little 'skillz' album one day. The gardens seems to be a very photogenic place, so much to snap up. So the day would not have been complete with a couple of iced coffees to relax and take a break with.

Were off to Auckland with all the girls today. Hope your having exciting weekends :)

Wednesday

Geeks and Nerds Quiz night at Bar 101. Fun theme, pizza, bar tabs, and exercising the brain cells = Win. So who wants to join our team tonight? More details here.

Tonight also has The Wednesday Theory which was just launched last week. Finally there's something to do on Wednesday nights, and finally there's a place to go to for drinks and good music. Best of all it's free entry.

Thursday

Saturday

Yesterday, we were having lunch at this cafe when we saw this poster. It also reminded us that we have to do a post on the things happening this weekend! Lol. Seriously, though, end the week with a bang on Saturday night. What The Deuce promises a night of kickass music with djs that will leave you wanting more!

Sounds like a good plan to us.

Guess whos got their swagger back

HAMILTON DOES!

 It was such an epic night out on Saturday with two major events down in Hamilton. The first Edgestravaganza was held in the new Claudelands arena and of course Soundscape which packed Clubs down Alexandra St.

I think its fair to say soundscape just gets better and better. It was awesome to see so many people to turn up despite the freezing cold weather and support the Hamilton event. But how would could possibly top the last soundscape? How about adding a 40m high carnival ride that spins and suspends you in the air! I'm curious to know if anyone did end up chucking over the side while on the ride haha. Not your thing then what about acts from The Netherlands, UK, Australia and across New Zealand.

Stand outs from the night most definately Dem Slackers and closing in the outside tent is always fun with Tronik djs.

Big ups to James and Greg plus everyone else who continue to make soundscape one amazing event not to be missed!

Hazel Hayes

We finally got to check out Hazel Hayes! I reckon it's one of Hamilton's best kept secrets! We especially loved the mismatched vintage chairs and the little touches in the place that makes it feel very homey and cosy! 

The coffee was great too, and it was served in cute little cups. Don't get me started on the food! Everything looked so good and we actually had a hard time deciding what to order. In the end we decided on the slow roasted pork belly burger and an "egg and bacon and cheese sandwich thing". Lol. The food was yummy too! If you want to have a feed, though, be sure to come in before 3 as that's when their kitchen shuts! 

It's definitely a place we'll come back to. The staff are really lovely, the food and coffee is good. A new hiding place? We think so too.

Sweet Dreams

So what is there to do on a Wednesday? 

A lot. It may not seem like it, but on a Wednesday, you can work, circle the mall about 3 times, drive to another mall 30 minutes before the closing time, meet your blogging idol, buy a scratchie and be one letter away from the jackpot, show up to a party early as, drive around to pass the time, crave sweets, walk around, ask a bar/club if they do hot chocolates (lol) and discover a new place. 

Victoria St Bistro is located at, yup, you guessed it - Victoria St! I've noticed it before because of the cozy vibe it gave off and tonight Steph and I randomly went in. What started out as a simple craving for hot chocolate ended up as an unforgettable night full of dreams and possibilites. 

I loved the interiors and the lighting, plus the service was good! The staff was smiley and very friendly. We ended up ordering desserts (A chocolate fudge sundae for Steph and a Bombe Alaska for me!) and although it took a while for it to come, I didn't really mind because we had the best conversation while waiting. The dessert was sooooo good too and it definitely made my sweet tooth happy! I'd love to come back here with the fambam and try what else is on the menu!
